Washing your vehicle at home can save you money and gives you the opportunity of knowing your vehicle top to bottom. Not only can you avoid handing your car over to a stranger, but you know where the dirt is and where to focus. We here at Irvine Auto Center understand what it takes to take care of your vehicle well, and have some tips on how to best give your vehicle the car wash it deserves. Take the following considerations into play during your next wash, and you will be sure to spend less time and energy for a better clean. Read below for our car wash in the summer tips:

ALWAYS wash from top to bottom

Do not wash from bottom to top, or take your sponge (or other cleaning device) from scrubbing the bottom of the vehicle to the windows. This is when you bring rocks and dirt from the lower part of the vehicle and use them to scratch your paint and windows up above. Generally speaking, you want to squirt this dirt off before you scrub.

Wash on colder days

Washing on a hot day is difficult. The soap dries before you can wash it off, and then becomes much harder to clean. The water dries quickly and can leave you with nasty water spots. To avoid this, do not wash your car when it’s over 80 degrees outside. If you cannot avoid it, wash the vehicle in a shaded area to buy you some time.

Use real car wash soap

Heavy degreasing and household cleaning items strip the paint from your vehicle and remove any wax you may have on it. Use a brand-name or equivalent car washing soap for cleaning the paint, metal, and windows. Otherwise, your vehicle will look dull and dirty even after you spend time on it.

Use the right products for specialty stains

Sap, paint, and other contaminants may require a different type of cleaning product to remove the blemish successfully and safely. Do not force these contaminants from the paint as they may pull paint from the body of the vehicle, and you may do damage in the process.

Use wax

It may be a pain to wax the vehicle every time you wash it. However, wax acts as a sunscreen, protects against dirt and debris, and makes the paint look great. Good quality waxes will last longer, but even the cheaper ones can help significantly.
