Many people opt for better exercise as one of their New Year new health goals. If you happen to be one of those people hiking is a great way to get in more exercise. One of the best things about Orange County hikes is there is really something for everyone. Whether you are going on your first hike, need a family-friendly hike, want to bring your dog along, or need something a bit more strenuous there are plenty of hikes to choose from in Orange County, CA.
Here is a look at three different hikes to take in the New Year.
If you are after an easy hike that is dog-friendly, look no further than the Aliso Peak Trail. Many people are unaware that this trail even exists as it is hidden above the beautiful Laguna Beach. The trail is a short one that is perfect for a mid-week hike or a quick and easy hike to help clear your head after a stressful day at work. The entrance to the trail is located in Laguna Niguel at the west end of Seaview Park. The hike is considered easy because of its short length but is not a great one for beginners due to the steep and rugged terrain. The hike can be modified to be family-friendly if you stop at the last picnic table and skip the climb to the peak.
If you are looking for a moderate hike, one that gets your heart pumping, but not too much, you need to try the Roller Coaster Ridge Trail. This beautiful double-track trail offers plenty of hills to get your heart pumping and rewards you with some of the most breathtaking views. The trailhead is located in San Clemente at a gate near the end of Camino de los Mares. At the start of the trail you have two options: if you go to the left you head up a steep hill to trails that really give you a workout or you can simply follow the trail straight up in a gradual ascent. The trail covers about 4.6 miles and should take less than 1.5 hours to complete.
