As soon as the hot summer months hit, Air Conditioning (A/C) is at the forefront of most drivers’ minds. Most of us hop in the car and simply assume that our car’s A/C system is going to work, as long as we continue to push the right buttons. We never give our car’s A/C system a second thought until it no longer works. With just a little car A/C preventative maintenance you can keep your car’s A/C working without costly repairs. Here are some A/C service tips you should keep in mind from us here at Irvine Auto Center. Have an A/C that’s not working? Come see any of our service departments for assistance.

Odd or Unusual Noises

When you turn your car’s A/C on the last thing you want to hear is any kind of odd or unusual noise. If you hear anything that sounds abnormal it is a sure sign that your car’s A/C needs to be looked at. Some odd noises can be attributed to debris clogging the unit. Most cases it is a sign of a worn out part.

Unpleasant Smell

Properly running A/C’s are not going to smell. If you turn you’re A/C on and are meet with an unpleasant odor you need to have the unit looked at by a professional. The leading cause of unpleasant odors in car A/C units is mold. If left untreated mold growth can cause major health problems.

No or Low Pressure

When you turn the A/C on in your car you expect to be hit with a blast of cold air. If your car’s A/C isn’t blowing as hard as before or if the air is not as cold as it used to be you might be dealing with a leak. Another sign of a leaking A/C is coolant draining around your vehicle. Leaks can easily be diagnosed by a professional and should be fixed quickly to prevent more serious problems.

Pooling Water Under Dash

Your car’s A/C drains water from the bottom of the car. If you no longer see water draining from your car that can signal a problem, such as a clogged or blocked drain. Water pooling underneath the dash near the floor mats is something else to look for. If you notice either of these signs bring your car into to get serviced right away.
