Call it what you may, but the 2015 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen is not a Jetta. Well, it was, but it isn’t anymore. For the 2015 model year, Volkswagen has renamed the Jetta SportWagen to Golf SportWagen. This makes sense, as the Golf comes only as a hatchback, either as a 2-door or a 4-door, and the Jetta is sedan-only. The exterior styling of the Volkswagen Golf and Jetta have both been updated, with the 2015 SportWagen styled more closely to that of the Volkswagen Golf.
Up front on the SportWagen, you’ll find a new redesigned front fascia matching that of the VW Golf. The overall styling of the Golf SportWagen resembles the rest of the Golf model lineup, except the Golf SportWagen is almost a whole foot longer than the Golf. Both the Golf and the Golf SportWagen share the same length wheelbase, but a longer rear overhang makes the wagon-variant longer overall, offering the interior with more cargo room behind the roomier rear seats.
Under the hood, the SportWagen gets the same new fuel efficient engines as found in the 2015 Volkswagen Golf. The standard engine is a 1.8L Turbo 4-Cylinder that produces 170 horsepower and returns up to 36 MPG highway. You can opt for the more efficient 2.0L Diesel engine for a stronger 236 lb-ft of torque and up to 43 MPG on the highway, but at the sacrifice of 20 horsepower. With either engine option, you’ll be getting quality, German-engineered performance and luxury in a spacious package.
Inside the 2015 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen, luxury engulfs the passengers. A new driver-centric dashboard layout puts the driver in command with the center-stack angled slightly more towards the driver. Feel the soft-touch materials and plush leather that surrounds the roomier interior. You’ll also appreciate the generous amounts of room in back seat and cargo area, which can be expanded even further by folding down the rear seats.
