What Tires are Best for Your Vehicle?

Few people ever discuss how to prepare a vehicle for summer. As part of living in Southern California, preparing your car for summertime is a vital part of living comfortably through the season. That’s why we’ve put together our best summer car tips, so you are prepared.

1. Clean the Car

Before you do anything, you’ll want to wash your car. Hopefully, you are cleaning it regularly and it isn’t too bad. Still, giving the exterior a soap and rinse is the best practice no matter the season. Give the outside a pressure wash and be sure to vacuum the interior as well. As the temperature rises, neglected trash may react poorly in the heat, potentially even melting and damaging your upholstery or plastic hardware.

2. Check the Tires

Your tires are designed to provide optimal performance and maximum safety. Before summer begins, you want to check the tread wear and make sure you don’t need a new set. If you notice any issues, including bubbles, uneven wear or visible wear bars, you want to get them replaced as soon as possible. A damaged tire meeting a sweltering hot road can be disastrous.

3. Check Your Fluids

Not only do you want to check the level of oil, but also its condition. If it is black and old-looking, you need to change your oil. Typically, regular oil lasts from 4,000 to 5,000 miles while synthetic should go 6,000 to 7,000 miles. Another fluid to look at is the coolant. You want to have the appropriate amount and the right mixture for maximum performance. Next, you will want to examine the automatic transmission fluid levels. It should be a bright shade of red and filled to the appropriate line. Aside from these, check your power steering, brake and windshield wiper fluid as well.

4. Do a Mechanical Inspection

You will want to inspect the brakes, your battery and other major components of your vehicle. If you find there’s anything wrong, you want to have it fixed before it becomes bigger. Make sure you also check your windshield wipers and replace them if necessary. You must ensure optimal visibility while driving in Tustin, CA during inclement weather.
