New for 2025
After a major refresh for the 2024 model year, including an elegant new interior and a refined turbocharged engine, the Atlas Cross Sport midsize SUV returns to the Volkswagen lineup for 2025. It is available in five trims, including SE, SE w/ Technology, SEL, an all-new SEL R-Line Black, and SEL Premium R-Line. The SEL R-Line Black trim on Atlas Cross Sport features blackout details and 20-inch black aluminum-alloy wheels outside, and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel and stainless-steel pedal caps inside.
All trims now feature standard 15W wireless charging and Light Assist. SEL Premium R-Line trims sport new high-end design and comfort features, including headrest perforation, four-way lumbar support, and massage function for front seats. New colors on Atlas Cross Sport include Mountain Lake Blue and Avocado Green.
Exterior
The Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) wrap around the headlights and, on all but base trims, continue into an illuminated lightbar that sits atop of an illuminated VW logo, giving the vehicle an unmistakable premium look. A front fascia with integrated air intakes completes the front-end treatment. Atlas Cross Sport models feature gloss-black grille details and a gloss-black “X” design element stretching across the lower fascia, similar to Taos.
Engineered from Volkswagen’s Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) architecture, the Atlas Cross Sport has a modern design that starts with the classic proportions and clean lines of the Atlas seven-seater and sharpens the angles, trimming visual mass to create a more striking silhouette.
Featuring a lower roofline than Atlas and a dramatically angled rear hatch, the Atlas Cross Sport sits 195.6 inches long, 78.3 inches wide, and 68.1 inches high (AWD models sit at 195.5 inches long and 67.8 inches high). This means an athletic stance that slightly shorter (5.2 inches), and lower (2.3 inches for FWD models and 2.6 inches for AWD models) than the Atlas. Atlas Cross Sport models feature 6.3 inches of ground clearance and departure angles of 20.8 and 25.1/24.9 degrees (front/rear FWD/AWD) and coefficient of drag of 0.34.

Atlas Cross Sport wears an upscale four-bar chrome grille gloss-black grille details, as well as an aggressively styled front bumper with a gloss-black “X” design element stretching across the lower fascia. All Atlas Cross Sport models feature full LED exterior lighting, including low beams, high beams, Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), side marker lights, and taillights—in the front, the grille is framed by 900-lumen strong LED headlights with standard Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS). Automatic headlamps and rain-sensing windshield wipers are standard across the lineup.
Overhead, silver roof rails are standard, and a large panoramic sunroof measuring about 4.5 feet by 3 feet, with a two-part glass opening system and powered sunshade, is available on SE w/ Technology models and standard on SEL models and up. Black roof rails are now available with the SEL Black R-Line trim.
At the back, the Atlas Cross Sport features the same chromed “Atlas” name strip as the seven-seater, as well as a large spoiler, lengthening the overall roofline of the vehicles and giving them a sleeker side profile. All but base trims mirror the front lighting signature in the rear with an illuminated lightbar and VW logo sitting between the LED taillights. Atlas Cross Sport models feature a bold rear diffuser to further differentiate it from the Atlas 7-seater.
SE w/ Technology and higher trims offer the Easy Open and Close feature for the tailgate. Easy Open and Close works in conjunction with KESSY® keyless access to enable opening of the tailgate with just a kick of the foot below the rear bumper when the key is in range.
The SEL R-Line® Black trim has unique badging; unique front and rear bumpers that incorporate stylish air intakes at the front and a diffusor in glossy black paint at the rear; and side skirts, all emphasizing the Atlas Cross Sport’s premium profile.
Eighteen-inch machined aluminum-alloy wheels wrapped in 245/60 all-season tires are standard, with 20-inch machined alloys with 255/50 all-season tires on SE with Technology and SEL models. SEL R-Line Black models offer a black wheel package featuring 20-inch black painted five-spoke alloy wheels. SEL R-Line trims feature 20-inch dark graphite alloys with 255/50 all-season tires, while SEL Premium R-Line® trims up the ante with 21-inch two-tone machined alloy wheels with 265/45 all-season tires.
Interior
The interior design of the Atlas Cross Sport is classic Volkswagen—clean and functional, with a premium feel. Driver controls are positioned for optimal ergonomics and usability, and simple, driver-centric displays enhance involvement behind the wheel. The seat position, shifter height, and the spacing between the pedals are all designed for maximum driver comfort.
Powertrain
All Atlas Cross Sport models are propelled by one of the most advanced Volkswagen engines ever built, the new turbocharged and direct-injection “Evo4” 2.0-liter four-cylinder TSI® EA888 engine Producing 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque with regular fuel—an increase of 34 horsepower and 15 lb-ft over the previous generation four-cylinder engine—it offers similar horsepower and more torque over a broader rev range (1600-4500 rpm) than previous six-cylinder models.
4Motion All-wheel-drive System
Atlas Cross Sport can be equipped with the available 4Motion with Active Control all-wheel-drive system. The latest-generation 4Motion system is designed to activate before wheelspin occurs, helping eliminate traction losses. The system achieves this by using an advanced control function based on specific driving conditions. When operating under a relatively low load or when coasting, the front wheels are driven and the rear wheels are decoupled, a feature designed to help to save fuel. However, the rear wheels can be engaged in fractions of a second whenever necessary via the center differential, which is activated by an electro-hydraulic oil pump.
Safety and Driver Assistance
To help protect occupants, Atlas Cross Sport models provide a combination of both passive and active safety systems. It features six airbags as standard (front and side airbags for front passengers and side curtain airbags for outboard seating positions), along with a number of electronic safety systems, such as an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). All Atlas Cross Sport models feature a standard rearview camera.
